Crises as Forces of Social and Political Transformation

The journal Historical Searches, published by the Institute of History at the University of Sarajevo and approaching its 25th issue, is preparing a thematic issue dedicated to the role of crises in historical processes of social and political transformation. The journal is committed to sustained and critical engagement with the past and encourages new lines of inquiry and the re-examination of established historiographical interpretations. While this issue foregrounds the theme of crises, the journal remains open to other contributions in the field of historical research, which will be considered within the regular section of the issue.

Crises—whether political, economic, ecological, military, religious, demographic, or cultural—have long occupied a central place in historical scholarship. They may mark moments of rupture and instability, but they also reveal structural tensions, reshape institutions, and generate new configurations of authority, legitimacy, and social order. Recent methodological developments have further drawn attention to the spatial dimensions of crises, borders, and territorial configurations in processes of historical change.

This thematic issue seeks contributions that examine crises as dynamic historical processes shaping social and political transformation. We welcome submissions addressing, but not limited to:

• political crises and regime change
• social upheavals and transformations of social structures
• wars, rebellions, and revolutions as moments of institutional reconfiguration
• economic crises and shifts in systems of production and distribution
• religious and ideological crises and their societal consequences
• crises of legitimacy and concepts of authority
• environmental and demographic crises in the longue durée
• crises of memory, identity, and narrative
• theoretical and methodological approaches to the concept of “crisis” in historiography

Contributions covering all historical periods—from Antiquity to the contemporary era—are welcome, as are comparative, transnational, and interdisciplinary perspectives.

We particularly encourage authors to reflect critically on the concept of “crisis” itself: Is it an analytical category, a discursive construct, or a structural condition? How is crisis defined, recognized, and mobilized within political, social, and spatial contexts?

Krize kao pokretači društvenih i političkih transformacija

Časopis Historijska traganja, koji izdaje Institut za historiju Univerziteta u Sarajevu i koji se približava svom 25. broju, priprema tematski broj posvećen ulozi kriza u historijskim procesima društvenih i političkih transformacija. Časopis je posvećen trajnom i kritičkom promišljanju prošlosti te poticanju novih istraživačkih pravaca i preispitivanju ustaljenih historiografskih interpretacija. Iako je ovaj broj tematski usmjeren na krize, časopis ostaje otvoren i za druge priloge iz oblasti historijskih istraživanja, koji će biti razmatrani u okviru redovnog dijela broja.

Krize – bilo da su političke, ekonomske, ekološke, vojne, religijske, demografske ili kulturne – zauzimaju središnje mjesto u historiografskim raspravama. One mogu označavati trenutke loma i nestabilnosti, ali istovremeno razotkrivaju strukturne napetosti, preoblikuju institucije i generiraju nove konfiguracije vlasti, legitimiteta i društvenog poretka. Savremeni metodološki pristupi dodatno su ukazali i na prostorne dimenzije kriza, granica i teritorijalnih konfiguracija u procesima historijske promjene.

Tematski broj želi okupiti radove koji krize sagledavaju kao dinamične historijske procese oblikovanja društvenih i političkih transformacija. Poziv je otvoren za radove koji se bave, između ostalog:

• političkim krizama i promjenama režima
• društvenim prevratima i transformacijama društvenih struktura
• ratovima, pobunama i revolucijama kao momentima institucionalne preobrazbe
• ekonomskim krizama i promjenama sistema proizvodnje i distribucije
• religijskim i ideološkim krizama i njihovim društvenim posljedicama
• krizama legitimiteta i konceptima vlasti
• ekološkim i demografskim krizama u dugom trajanju
• krizama pamćenja, identiteta i narativa
• teorijskim i metodološkim pristupima pojmu „krize“ u historiografiji

Dobrodošli su radovi koji obuhvataju sve historijske periode – od antike do savremenog doba – kao i komparativne, transnacionalne i interdisciplinarne perspektive.

Posebno ohrabrujemo autore da kritički promišljaju sam pojam „krize“: da li je riječ o analitičkoj kategoriji, diskurzivnom konstruktu ili strukturnom stanju? Na koji se način kriza definira, prepoznaje i koristi u političkom, društvenom i prostornom kontekstu?

Rok za dostavljanje radova: 15. juli 2026.

Radovi podliježu dvostruko slijepoj recenziji.
